Methods for treating and processing refractory gold ores are well established. However, what is less well understood is how the formation of the gold-bearing deposits affects gold processing and extraction. In order to evaluate the effect of ore genesis on gold extraction a number of South African gold deposits were studied.
The preparation of the ore for processing is similar to flotation. The ore must be ground to a specific size before it can be treated. But instead of being floated away from the rock, it is dissolved by the cyanide to form a liquid solution. As I mentioned for this process to work the ore is ground to a specific size, at a predetermined density.
Processing gold involves transforming rock and ore into a metallic alloy of substantial purity – known as doré – typically containing between 60-90% gold. During its life, a number of factors – such as the price of gold or input costs – will affect which areas of an ore body are deemed profitable (economic) to mine.
The initial step in the gold refinery process involves the extraction of gold ore from the ground. This is done through mining methods that depend on the location, accessibility, and quality of the ore deposit. Underground mining techniques, such as tunneling and shaft mining, are employed to extract gold ore from deep within the Earth.
A more recent paper, "Roasting of Arsenical Gold Ores and Concentrates" by F. R. Archibald contains a bibliography listing 23 references on the subject of roasting gold and silver ores. Developments in gold ore processing technology have resulted in periodic step changes for the industry over the years. Total gold mined from 1900 to the present is estimated (U.S. Geological Survey, 2014) to be about 141,000 tons.Over the course of history, humans are estimated to have mined a total of 165,000 tons; therefore, only about 24,000 tons of gold has …
The processing of epithermal gold ore involves crushing the ore to a fine powder, which is then mixed with water to form a slurry. The slurry is then subjected to gravity separation or flotation to concentrate the gold particles. The resulting concentrate is then smelted to produce gold bullion. 7. Porphyry gold-copper ore

mineral processing, art of treating crude ores and mineral products in order to separate the valuable minerals from the waste rock, or gangue. It is the first process that most ores undergo after mining in order to provide a more concentrated material for the procedures of extractive metallurgy. The primary operations are comminution and concentration, but there are other …
Chemical processing, or hydrometallurgy, then takes place. Starting with the leaching stage, an aqueous solution is used to dissolve gold from ores. Cyanide solutions are very efficient but their toxicity makes the development of alternative reagents such as thiosulfate (Birich et al., 2019; Sousa et al., 2016), halides, thiocyanide, thiourea ...
