Approximately 90% of the particles in the clay sample were finer than 2 μm; therefore, it was a challenge to remove colored impurities (TiO 2 and iron oxide) from the clay by flotation. It was possible, nevertheless, to reduce the TiO 2 content from 1.9% by weight to approximately 1% at 70% to 76% weight recovery.

Kaolin is valued as a white pigment and therefore the goal in kaolin flotation circuits is to remove the colored impurities to result in an acceptable brightness product. Kaolin flotation originated with a novel carrier flotation process and later on carrierless flotation techniques were developed. ... The iron mineral was separated by froth ...
Firstly, most impurity minerals are sorted out to purify kaolin. 1. Magnetic separation methods. Magnetic separation is the primary physical iron removal method. Iron mineral impurities in kaolin usually have weak magnetic …
The reverse flotation method adjusts the type and dosage of flotation reagents to cause kaolin particles to sink and gangue minerals to float, thereby achieving effective removal of impurities. ... and then removing it through washing to improve the whiteness of kaolin. This is a traditional iron removal method in the kaolin industry. Commonly ...
Reverse flotation has emerged as one of the most efficient beneficiation process for removing discolored impurities, mainly titanium and iron-containing minerals, from kaolin. In kaolin flotation, tall oil has been traditionally used as the collector.
Kaolin used as an industrial mineral, especially that in the paper-manufacturing industry, must be of fine size, with high brightness, a low impurity content, and good crystal shape. However, in most kaolin deposits there are various impurities which have a very bad effect on the quality of the kaolin. Therefore, it is necessary to remove these impurities from kaolin ore.
Kaolin is valued as a white pigment and therefore the goal in kaolin flotation circuits is to remove the colored impurities to result in an acceptable brightness product.
the paper industry, different processes have been proposed for removing kaolin impurities. Sodium hydrosulphite has been used for soluble iron removal during the dewatering step. Flotation is another method used for rutile/anatase removal, mostly when these minerals are colored by iron. This process consists in increasing pH of
A clay development company uses carrier-free flotation technology to remove iron from kaolin by flotation. During the flotation process, Ca2+ is added to activate the flotation process, and at the same time, high-strength scrubbing of the kaolin slurry is carried out to remove surface contaminants. A good flotation effect has been achieved ...
Iron oxide in kaolin can be removed by physical separation, e.g. flotation or magnetic separation, or by chemical leaching processes using chemicals such as Na2SO3, Cl2, HCl, and dithionite, etc. However, the whitening efficiency of these traditional methods is usually low due to the complex form of iron (Cao et al. 2016).
